Michael didn’t just plan a proposal, he crafted an experience. Every detail was chosen with Alli in mind. From the florals to the champagne, this dock proposal on Lady Bird Lake was the kind of moment that feels exclusive and secretly planned to perfection.

Planning a Surprise Dock Proposal in Austin
About a week before the big day, I finally met Michael in person. I drove down to San Antonio to pick up a personalized champagne bottle and candles he’d custom ordered just for the proposal. You could tell he was excited, but focused.

Why Michael Chose Lady Bird Lake & The Rowing Dock
Michael secured permission to use a the dock from The Rowing Dock, right next to Retro Boat Rentals. While it is a public dock, they Rowing Dock does take priority over it’s use. It’s a busy area, so timing mattered, the dock would only be available for a short window before they needed it back.
But the location? Worth it.
Water views. Quiet moments. That soft Austin glow right before sunset. It felt private even though we were right in the heart of the city. Michael arrived early to check the setup, make sure everything was perfect, then left to return later for what Alli thought was just a casual date night.
The Floral Vision by Wow Factor Floral
Michael chose an all-white floral design, and Wow Factor Floral absolutely delivered. He wanted, simple and timeless. Hydrangeas, roses and soft textures framed the dock beautifully without overpowering it. Because The Rowing Dock needed the space back shortly after the proposal, everything was designed to be picked up quickly and carried away. Beautiful and functional? We love a smart setup.

The Moment Michael Got Down on One Knee
When Michael and Alli walked onto the dock, the light was golden and calm. It felt like the world slowed down just for them. Michael took a breath, got down on one knee, and asked Alli to spend forever with him.
Her reaction was pure magic! Happy tears, laughter, and that soft emotional “yes” that says everything without needing words.

Celebrating With a Sunset Cruise on Lady Bird Lake
After the dock moment, they climbed into their retro boat and set off for a sunset cruise with Retro Boat Rentals. Champagne popped, laughs echoed across the water, and they soaked in their first moments as an engaged couple.
Watching them drift across Lady Bird Lake with the city glowing behind them was the perfect ending.

San Antonio Couples Planning an Austin Proposal
Michael and Alli made the trip from San Antonio, and honestly? Austin showed up for them. From the dock setup to the sunset cruise, this proposal proves you don’t have to stay local to make something unforgettable.
If you’re a San Antonio couple dreaming up an Austin proposal, I’m always down to help you plan something just as meaningful.
