Jarren had a whole plan to propose to Carolina at Zilker Botanical Garden. Then Austin decided to freeze that week. Instead of forcing it, we moved the proposal to the following week and changed the location to the Marian Shrine of Our Lady of Schoenstatt. If you have never been, it sits quietly tucked into the hill country just outside Austin. Down the trail from the chapel there is an overlook that opens up to wide views of the hills, and that is where everything came together.
Earlier that day, family arrived to help set everything up. Candles were placed carefully around the space. Soft lavender and white flowers framed the blanket where Jarren would eventually kneel. From the trail above it almost looked like a small glowing circle tucked into the hillside.
By the time Jarren and Carolina arrived, the light was starting to soften across the hill country.

Schoenstatt Shrine Proposal Overlooking the Hill Country
When they started walking down the trail toward the overlook, Carolina had no idea what was waiting. The Marian Shrine grounds are quiet in a way that makes people slow down without realizing it. The small chapel sits near the top of the hill, and just a short walk away the trees open up to an overlook of the Texas hill country. As they stepped into the space surrounded by candles and flowers, Carolina immediately knew something was happening. Jarren took her hands, he dropped to one knee. Carolina covered her mouth and started laughing through tears while he asked her to marry him. A few seconds later she said yes.

The First Moments After the Proposal
One of my favorite parts of any proposal is what happens right after. The question has been asked and suddenly everything feels a little surreal for a few seconds. Carolina kept looking down at the ring like she was making sure it was real saying, “Oh my God, it’s so pretty”. Jarren stood up and wrapped his arms around her while the hill country stretched out behind them. The light at the overlook was soft and warm, and for a moment it felt like they had the entire place to themselves.

A Schoenstatt Shrine Proposal with Family Waiting Nearby
Not for long though. A few minutes later friends and family began walking down the trail to greet them. There were cheers, hugs, and the very familiar request everyone makes after a proposal. “Let me see the ring.” Carolina held out her hand while everyone gathered around her, smiling and laughing as people took turns looking at it up close. One of the things I loved most about this proposal was how much family was part of it. The same people who helped place candles and flowers earlier in the day were now standing there celebrating with them. It made the whole moment feel shared.

Capturing the Behind the Scenes
Jarren also invited Austin Wedding Content Creators to capture the behind the scenes moments of the proposal. While I photographed the proposal itself, they documented the reactions, the setup earlier in the day, and the excitement happening around us. It is always fun seeing how those perspectives come together. Photos hold the moment still while video captures the movement and emotion around it. Together it tells the full story of what the day felt like.

Portraits at the Chapel
After the celebration at the overlook, we walked around the property for a few portraits. The small white chapel at the Marian Shrine of Our Lady of Schoenstatt sits at the top of the hill surrounded by trees and open sky. As the sun started dropping lower, the light wrapped around the building and cast long shadows across the courtyard. Jarren and Carolina stood together on the walkway in front of the chapel, still smiling and talking through everything that had just happened.

A Hill Country Proposal Near Austin
Looking back, it is funny to think this proposal almost happened at Zilker Botanical Garden. But the change of plans ended up creating something even more personal. Instead of a busy garden, Jarren and Carolina had a quiet hill country overlook surrounded by candles, flowers, and the people who love them most. The Marian Shrine of Our Lady of Schoenstatt is one of the most peaceful proposal locations in the Austin hill country, and it gave them the space to take in the moment before celebrating with everyone who came to support them.
Jarren, thank you for trusting me to photograph such an important moment. And Carolina, the joy on your face when you realized what was happening was something I will not forget. Congratulations to you both.
