Dallas Engagement Photographer

Michelle laughs with her whole body. That is one of the first things I noticed photographing them as a Dallas engagement photographer. Not just a smile or a quick reaction. She leans into it, grabs onto Richard, and stays there a second longer than you expect. And Richard just lets her. Half the time he is laughing before she even finishes whatever she is saying. The other half he is looking at her like he already knows what is coming. That was the rhythm the entire session.

How they got here

They met on Hinge, but there was already some trust built in before they ever went on a date. A mutual friend had known both of them for years, so it was less of a blind first date and more like finally meeting someone who had already been vouched for. Michelle told me about PT school and how full her days were. Long hours studying, barely having time to go out. Richard would still come over, not to distract her, just to sit on the couch while she worked. A quick hug, a few minutes of talking, then back to studying. It sounds small, but the way she talked about it, you could tell it mattered.

Richard told me he tried not to get ahead of himself at first. He had said “this is the one” before and it had not worked out. Then he met Michelle. He said it did not take long this time. He just knew.

Flippen Park engagement photos in Dallas

We started at Flippen Park. The light was coming through the trees in a way that felt easy to work with. Nothing harsh, nothing dramatic. Michelle kept wrapping her arms around Richard from behind, pulling herself into him and laughing before I even gave them direction. There is a photo where she is mid laugh with her eyes closed and he is just holding onto her like this is completely normal for them, because it is. I would give them something simple to start with and within seconds they would turn it into their own moment.

Dallas Scottish Rite engagement photos

At the Dallas Scottish Rite, things slowed down a little. They sat on the steps, closer this time. Less movement, more just being right there with each other. Michelle rested her hand along his face and stayed there. Richard leaned into her instead of away. They told me about one of their early dates at a climbing gym where he dislocated his kneecap trying to impress her. The way they tell it now, they are both laughing. Even in that story, you can see what their relationship looks like. Things do not always go as planned, but they stay in it together.

Main Street Garden Park and the Dallas skyline

We ended at Main Street Garden Park with the skyline behind them. By then they were comfortable enough to forget I was there. They were walking across the grass, slightly out of sync, bumping into each other and laughing about it. At one point Michelle reached up, pulled him in, and kissed him without any direction from me. That ended up being one of my favorite frames from the session. Not because of the skyline, but because of how natural it felt for them.

From Dallas to Hummingbird House in Austin

They are getting married at Hummingbird House in Austin, Texas. Dallas is where a lot of their day to day life happens. Coffee shops, workouts, weekends with friends, all the in between parts. Austin will be where everything comes together. Different city, same connection, same way they show up for each other.
