Some weddings feel like productions. Bridget and Aaron’s wedding at The Cathedral in Austin felt like a gathering. When guests arrived, people were already hugging in the courtyard, catching up with friends they had not seen in years, and keeping an eye on two very excited little girls running around in white dresses. Those girls were Bridget and Aaron’s twin daughters, and they moved through the entire day like they owned the place. From the very beginning it was clear this day was not just about two people getting married. It was about a family celebrating together.

A Wedding Ceremony at The Cathedral Austin
The ceremony took place inside The Cathedral in Austin, a venue that carries a story of its own. The building was once an old Baptist church. Today it has been renovated into a coworking space and art gallery, but the original architecture still shapes the entire space.
Tall arched windows line the walls and natural light pours in through the glass. The wood floors creak slightly when guests walk across them. It still feels like a historic building, even as art hangs on the walls and modern light fixtures float above the room. Bridget told me one of the things she loved most about the venue was its architecture and history. Standing inside the ceremony room you can see exactly what she meant.

Soft florals by Reiley and Rose framed the aisle in loose garden arrangements. A patterned runner stretched down the center of the room toward the tall window at the front. It felt relaxed and welcoming. Exactly how Bridget and Aaron described the day they wanted.
One thing I always notice when photographing weddings at The Cathedral in Austin is how the building changes throughout the day. During the ceremony the tall windows fill the space with daylight. Later in the evening the same room transforms as the lights dim and music fills the room. It is the same space, but it feels completely different depending on the moment happening inside it.

Cocktail Hour at The Cathedral Austin
After the ceremony guests wandered upstairs for cocktail hour, spreading out through a few of the old classrooms that now function as lounge spaces. One of the most popular spots ended up being the terrace just outside. It overlooks the parking lot which sounds funny on paper, but in reality it became the place everyone gathered. Guests leaned on the railing with drinks in hand, catching up with friends while the sun started to drop behind the trees. Inside, people moved between rooms grabbing cocktails and small bites while the band downstairs started setting up for the evening. It gave the whole night a natural rhythm. Ceremony downstairs, a relaxed moment upstairs, and then everyone slowly drifting back into the main room when the music started.

Reception Inside The Cathedral Austin
The florals carried the same soft palette throughout the reception. Peach roses, pale blues, creamy whites, and fresh greenery layered across the room. The cake table sat surrounded by arrangements that made the display feel full and colorful without overwhelming the space. With artwork on the walls and those tall windows filling the room with light, it honestly felt like a gallery that just happened to have a wedding happening inside it.

A Packed Dance Floor at The Cathedral
Once dinner wrapped up, the energy in the room shifted quickly. The Love and Happiness Band with Moontower Entertainment started playing and the dance floor filled almost immediately. Friends pulled each other out of their seats. Guests formed small circles cheering each other on. Bridesmaids danced under colored lights while people clapped along to the music. At one point Bridget wrapped Aaron in a huge hug in the middle of the dance floor while everyone around them kept dancing.
It was loud, joyful, and exactly the kind of celebration Bridget and Aaron described from the beginning. Fun. Casual. Full of the people they love.

Late Night Donuts From The Salty Donut
Later in the evening the donut boxes appeared. Guests grabbed them between songs and Bridget and her brother shared one in the most chaotic and hilarious way possible. It was the perfect late night snack after hours on the dance floor.

A Sparkler Exit at The Cathedral
The night ended outside The Cathedral in Austin with a sparkler send off. Guests lined the walkway holding sparklers while Bridget and Aaron walked through the glowing tunnel of light. They were both laughing the entire time. Hands clasped together, surrounded by their friends and family cheering them on. The perfect ending to a day that felt exactly how Bridget described it. A fun get together with our closest friends and family.

Getting Married at The Cathedral in Austin
For couples looking for a venue that feels creative and distinctly Austin, The Cathedral in Austin is one of the most unique spaces in the city. The building’s history as a church combined with its life today as an art gallery creates a setting that feels relaxed but still meaningful. The architecture gives the ceremony weight while the open layout keeps the celebration feeling personal. Bridget and Aaron’s wedding was a beautiful reminder that the best weddings are not about production. They are about people. And a room full of friends and family celebrating together.
